About

To top

A professional development course for conservators, researchers and heritage professionals.

This specialist one-day course focuses on the identification of leather and skin-based materials. Through hands-on analysis, guided examination, and structured exercises using reference samples, participants will develop the knowledge and practical skills to distinguish between different animal species and understand the characteristics of each.

Working with both visual and microscopic features, you will learn how to recognise key markers, understand variation, and apply identification skills directly to collection care and conservation decision-making.

Suitable for conservators, heritage professionals, and researchers working with organic materials, and anyone with a serious interest in understanding leather and skin as materials.
